    Free Amazon Prime for students
Amazon is currently giving free 1 year memberships to Amazon Prime (free 2 day shipping, $3.99 overnight shipping) to current students with a .edu email address: http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info I'm not sure how long they're offering this (it doesn't say on the site).

Just thought i'd give fellow students the heads up on this in case you haven't heard about it yet. This is going to save me a ton on shipping textbooks this year!

I'm moving to Pittsburgh late June/early July, and I'd love to start an eco-friendly vegan/vegetarian house. My boyfriend and I are looking for vegetarians and vegans to rent out a big house. We'd split rent, take turns making meals, chores, etc. Preferably people who don't mind tight living conditions (the more people, the cheaper rent is) I'd like it to go further than just a housing arrangement though. Promoting veganism/vegetarianism, benefits, info/skill shares, pot lucks. If anyone is interested, please email me @ gathered.ghosts@gmail.com (or if you have tips on how to start something like this)

The sooner the better. Serious inquiries only. (I've had so many people flake out already)

Smokers okay (as long as you smoke outside), animal companions okay (as long as we can find a landlord who doesn't mind), bi/queer friendly.
No meat eaters (can't stand the thought of it being in my fridge), though. Sorry

    Comp For Sale
Anyone want to buy a puter?

I'm getting a MacBook Pro next week so I'm looking to sell my Powerbook G4. It has the follow specs:

    15.4 inch screen
    80GB Hard drive
    1 GB RAM
1.5 GHz Power PC G4 Processor
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 Graphics Card
Superdrive (read and writes DVDs and CDs)
    2 USB Ports
    Touchpad
    56K V.92 Modem
    10/100/1000 Ethernet
    Internal Airport Extreme
    Built-in speakers
    Bluetooth
    OS X
    Ports include:
    o 1 PCMCIA slot
    o DVI Monitor port
    o S-video port
    o 2 @ USB port
    o headphone out
    o Digital Audio in/out
    o IEEE-1394 Firewire 800
It comes with the AC Adapter, battery and the two OS X install disks. I keep mine plugged in all the time but I just checked and it says it still gets about an hour battery life.
The computer works wonderfully. Cosmetically, I'd say it's an A-. Screen has no flaws or scratches. There is a dent on the bottom. There are two small reverse dents, one of the right side of the base and one in the front of the base. There is a scratch on the top right corner.

I paid around $1600 for this machine originally. I'm asking for $850 or best offer. If anyone is interested or has any questions, let me know.

    Seeking interns and/or photographer.
    Hello,
We are still looking for a few interns here at Dead Celebrity Productions, as well as a photographer. We don't need a professional with a huge rig, reflector umbrella, and the latest D-SLR, just someone with a good eye (or two) who is reliable and prompt. All we need is someone to take shots during shows (its tricky sometimes to run sound and try to take photos) and help out otherwise (unless they have no interest in being an intern, and just want to snap pictures). We offer credit on our upcoming website for all photos taken (and anywhere else they are used), as well as the standard release stuff for portfolios and such. Oh yeah, and free admission to all of our shows, as well as free swag from the bands when aplicable.

    Sound good?

    Write us back!

Hey quick question because I have a hard time getting AIP to answer the phone! Is it easy to live in the dorms without a car? Are there grocery stores etc. within walking distance and good public transportation? Also, if you do have a car, do you have to pay a fee for parking it in a garage or something? Thanks!

I am currently a high school senior trying to decide where to go in the fall (imagine that). As much as my parents would like me to make an "educated decision," I can't make heads or tails of any of the bullshit posted on college websites because they're all just trying to sell themselves rather than give honest imput. I am currently deciding between Ohio University, Kent State University, AIP & possibly the University of Michigan (haven't heard from them yet). So anyway, I figured I'd be a good little n00B & ask some questions.

    1) If I go to AIP, I'll be pursuing Graphic Design. How would you say the Graphic Design program is? What are any downfalls I should look out for? IYO, would this be a reasonable major to pursue in order to actually get a job related to art?

    2) I've heard a lot about the dorms: ghetto, don't go out at night, ew Giant Eagle- etc. Considering the town I grew up in, that really doesn't bother me. But how are the RAs, rule enforcement, etc? (I just really don't want people up my  ass constantly, especially because I'm not one to bother others, at all.)

    3) Though I'm not into party schools, give me your opinions on the party/drug/alcohol scene at AIP.

    4) Am I actually going to meet new/different people there? Its pretty safe to say that here everyone knows everyone and everyone is the same. That's tired, let me tell you.

Eh, well if I think of anything else, I'll be back, but thanks! :)

Hello everybody! My name is Brittany, and I'll be a senior in high school this year. I started looking at colleges awhile back, and I actually visited AIP on August 22 for my interview. I love the school (I'm not sucking up, I really did love it), and I really believe that it's where I want to go. I hope nobody minds, but I had some questions. I'm really sorry if they've already been asked.

    01. Overall, how is the photography program? That would be my major if I attended. Are the professors good? Are the classes challenging? Those kinds of things. The admissions counselor I talked to (Megan Schaffer) also said you had to bring your own camera, but whether it was digital or old-school style she didn't say.
    02. How is dorm life? I did get to see the dorms (a studio room to be exact) and meet an RA. The dorms seemed laid-back, but that just might have been because it was summer. The RA also said that there's a no alcohol policy, but is that really enforced? I'm not whining - I'm actually quite happy that AIP doesn't appear to be a party school. But anyway, what is dorm life like, in your opinion?
    03. I really didn't get to tour around the campus much, so forgive me. Is there a grocery store, Wal-Mart/Target, movie theater or a mall anywhere close by, and if so, are they accessible by walking or by bus? I don't have a car and I probably wouldn't want one if I did go to AIP, seeing as parking is expensive.
    04. How are the clubs/organizations that the school offers? Are they very active, or are they kind of lame?
    05. Anything else of advice (my creative mind is running low today, sorry).

A big thank you in advance to anyone who replies. I really love the good impression that I got from touring the school, and hope to get to get some further insight from you guys. Thanks! :D

this is a long one, i apologize beforehand.
    so, hi.

my name's Sam. i'm actually currently a sophomore-to-be at Pitt, double majoring in Sociology and Psychology. so why in the hell did i come here, you ask?

i went into Pitt thinking i was going to be a Psych major, and like 75% of all Psych majors, i'm really questioning it. i think a lot of Psych is honestly bull, and it's becoming way too scientific for my liking. so i added on Sociology and a certificate in Women's Studies, both of which i'm madly in love with. i decided to keep Psych as one of my majors, simply because saying i have a degree in Psych would help me, well... help people. which is what i love to do. i then planned on going for my Masters in Sociology. BUT, the problem is 80% of Sociology majors, even those that have Masters in the field, end up in human resources departments.. which would make me go nuts. the other option is staying for my PhD so i could teach, but the fact of the matter is that i don't think i'd want to be in school for that long. i love learning, but i have other goals and plans for my life that going for my PhD would interfere with.

so needless to say, i'm doing a sort of reevaluation of my goals and interests.

    which is why i'm here.

i was on the yearbook staff all throughout high school, and was the editor my senior year--and i absolutely loved everything about it. during my freshman year of college all of my projects for classes consisted of publication-type projects that i would really get into. i'm a huge photoshop fan, always manipulating my own pictures, and really loved using pagemaker in high school. and i could definitely see myself doing this as a career, for magazines, advertisements, etc etc.

so here i am. a 4-year college kid with not a clue as to how art schools work and not even sure what in the hell my major at an art school would BE given my interests. i'm thinking Graphic Design. can any of you suggest any other programs/majors/whatever that would concentrate even more on what i want to do? have info/comments on AIP's Graphic Design program specifically?

what about AIP in general? like i said, i go to Pitt, and i'm in love with the city of Pittsburgh, which is why this is one of the schools i'm looking at more thoroughly. what about housing? the people that go to AIP? the quality of professors and/or classes in general? any general art school info/suggestions that would help me?

i don't know if this matters, given it's specifically an AIP community, but my hometown is actually about 45 mins from Philadelphia. any info/comments on the AI of Philly?

ANY help is appreciated. thanks tons in advance.

Hello everyone. My name's Ryan and I will be attending AIP starting in August to major in Digital Media Production. I was just wondering if anyone involved in this program could answer a couple of questions for me:

    1. What do you like about the program and what don't you like about it?
    2. Do you have any tips or suggestions for newcomers to this program?
    3. Are the teachers good?

And I also have a few for anybody who wants to answer (even if they are not involved with Digital Media Production):

    4. If you live in Allegheny Center, do you like living there? What is good about it? What is not good about it?
    5. Any tips or suggestions for a newcomer to the city of Pittsburgh?
    6. Do you like AIP? What do you like/not like about it?
    7. What do you think of the clubs at the school? Are they worth getting involved in?
    8. Anything else I should know?

Thanks for taking the time to answer these. I just want to get an idea of what to expect when I get here. :)

Hey everyone! I have a few questions about AIP and I would appreciate any answers!

    1) Does anyone have any information on the film production program? I'm very interested in that, as well as fashion merchandising and culinary arts. If anyone has any info on any of those, that'd be fantastic!

    2) Is AIP difficult to get into? I've been looking at the school's information on collegeboard.com but they don't have any info regarding the average SAT scores or percent admitted.

    3) Overall, do you like the school? Are you happy with your choice to go there?

    Thanks everyone!

So... I start on July 10. Any ideas when I should expect to find out who I'm rooming with at my lovely ghetto suite? I'd like to move on June 23, but I don't know if that's too soon to expect anything.

    Help.
